What is PIAM?

Physical Identity and Access Management, or PIAM, is the ability for organizations to manage the people who access their facilities, no matter if they are employees, contractors, service personnel, vendors or visitors.

If the organization is large enough, with people coming and going, being onboarded and offboarded, and with lots of areas that need to be secured, a PIAM system is the best bet to ensure compliance of policies and procedures relating to security access!

What are the benefits?

A good PIAM system will be the link between your enterprise systems, such as Human Resources or Payroll systems, your Learning Management or Training systems and your Identity Management systems, and your Physical Access Control Systems (PACS).

A PIAM system will streamline and automate a lot of the processes involved in onboarding new identities, offboarding identities at the conclusion of the engagement and ensuring that the access the identities have is appropriate for the task they are there to do.

The end result is greater security as organizations are able to ensure that only the appropriate people have access to their facilities.
